Nimesh Desai is a British and world champion in the sport, and teaches 30 boys and girls aged from four to 16 through-out schools in Bromley. Originating in the Philippines, guba doce pares is a type of stick fighting where combatants are judged on their technique rather than their ability to knock out an opponent.  “They get fitness, self-defence and confidence building. “A lot of the parents say that the kids have become more confident in themselves when dealing with school tasks and problems even if they are stressed out with exams.

“It gives them confidence to tackle situations and handles them.

“There will be times when some things are difficult but if they persevere they will overcome them.
